Read the documents: FBI releases hundreds of pages on James ‘Whitey’ Bulger’s file

by Michelle Williams, Mass Live

More than two years after his death, the Federal Bureau of Investigation released previously classified files on Boston mobster James “Whitey” Bulger.

The 300 pages were released this month offering a look into federal investigations into Bulger prior to him serving as an informant for the federal agency.

Bulger led the notorious Winter Hill Gang from the 1970s into the 1990s. He spent 16 years hiding from authorities before being found and tried on a slew of charges. He was sentenced to two life terms plus five years.

He died at 89 years old after he was beaten to death by inmates less than 24 hours after he was transferred to the U.S. Penitentiary, Hazelton in West Virginia.
